Skills are potentials, innate ability in you that can be discovered, acquired and very dependable for means of livelihood. In today’s world, the benefit of skill acquisition cannot be over emphasized. Skills have made man very useful, and the lack of it has rendered a lot useless!
Many today crave for white collar jobs which is not readily available; life will not give you what you deserve but you need to demand from life what is truly yours, if your certificates or backgrounds even the society cannot give you what you deserve, you need to look inward at your god given potentials; discover them, develop them and you realize that the sky is just the starting point, because your existence in life is a point of what your life contains, so how do you acquire these useful skills?

Discover yourself
Self discovery is a mirror of your success image. Irrespective of what you read in school, you can discover your innate ability; what others recommend you for is what naturally flows out of you, what you can sacrifice your time, money , resources for. Your passion, and hear this, what you hate could also be a clue to what you are born to change, these discovered skills are raw, they need to be manufactured! How?
Develop yourself
The greatest investment in life is self development irrespective of what you studied in school you can develop a gift or acquire many skills in line with your passion in life. Am a typical example, I have a B.sc degree in microbiology but have passion for creativity from childhood, though my parents wanted me to be a doctor, but throughout my school days, I developed my innact potentials and trained professionally in catering, fashion designing, bead design wire works , jewelry, hat designs, interior and exterior decorations, cosmetology, make-up, creative and visual art, tye-dyeing, batik, cake modeling and design now I have a skill acquisition training institute creative world diversity, it’s a government approved, registered institute and thus far offered certified courses in all these programme, you can also decide to be jack of all trade, master of “ALL” like me.
Start with what you have
Starting small, does not mean remaining small, law of gravity says anything that goes up must surely come down; but there is a law of nature that says anything that grows up stays up! That is how starting small is. It is a great future that needs time to grow up and remain up. My company, creative world, started with just #5,000 after my service year I bought #5,000 worth beads and make them in unique designs and market, you know what, the first one I sold is the one I put on, I wore another from the products, I sold it again and on! Until the last, I got back home my husband asked “where is the bead you wore this morning?” and I showed him the money! Now I have really grown financially in the business. You can also start small but think big!
Start from where you are
Every place on the surface of the earth is productive, all you need to do is identify the need in your environment and device a means to meet the need and in turn get your money that is a great quality of an entrepreneur. There is a story of two men that got to a village, the first one was angry and left the village because the villagers were not wearing shoes, then other man saw it as an opportunity to establish a shoe factory in that village, he did not only succeed making the villagers buy shoes but also employed many in the factory, now a great millionaire!
Your skill can make you very useful to yourself, your society and the nation at large. All you need to do is to follow the above steps with great determination and discipline, see you in the next edition as we unfold more areas where your skill can be useful to you. What makes a balloon fly it’s not it’s colour but it’s content!
